Church of Hope Pastor Search

The Church of Hope at the South Dakota Women’s Prison in Pierre, SD, is searching for a full-time pastor.  The pastor will provide spiritual leadership to the Prison Congregation and the church council, and work collaboratively with the Church of Hope Steering Committee and volunteers.  Duties include preaching, conducting worship, communion, baptism, leading Bible studies, leadership development, and nurturing the spiritual lives of the congregation. The pastor will also provide individual counsel for incarcerated individuals as necessary.

The pastor will create awareness and support for the prison ministry through volunteer development and fundraising, by cultivating ecumenical partnerships and working cooperatively with ABC Dakotas member churches.

The pastor will abide by prison guidelines, attend all necessary training to maintain the security level required by the Department of Corrections, and build positive relationships with prison staff.

The Church of Hope is affiliated with American Baptist Churches of the Dakotas, and ABCUSA.

Compensation package range:  $40,000-$50,000 annually.

Qualifications:

·       Master of Divinity degree preferred

·       Ordination recognized by the American Baptist Churches of the Dakotas is preferred

·       Understanding of trauma, addiction, mental health, and sex offense issues

·       Public relations and fund-raising skills
