At the end of 1994 there were 860,632 inmates. Representing a 58% increase in the prison population during a 5 year period of time
--- Inmates are parents to approximately 1 million children under the age of 18
--- Average cost per inmate is $19,000 per year
--- Over 95% of all inmates will one day reenter society..
--- Nearly 60% of all inmates will be returned to prison
--- There are only 9 mainline Christian Congregations in state prisons
